Crow’s Shadow Round-Up Gallery

Visitors to the Round-Up this year will see a special gallery set-up along Pendelton’s Main Street. The pop-up Crow’s Shadow Round-Up Gallery includes work by artists James Lavadour, Wendy Red Star and Rick Bartow, along with pieces from non-native artists representing the Crow’s Shadow Artist-in-Residency program.

The gallery is made possible by support from the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation and Harsch Investment Properties, both major arts and Round-Up supporters, said Nika Blasser, Crow’s Shadow marketing director.

This year’s event is the 25th anniversary of Crow’s Shadow Institute of Arts, founded in 1992 by James Lavadour, who “envisioned the arts as contributing to social and economic development,” writes the East Oregonian. Over the past 25 years it has emerged as a premiere printmaking studio.

The Crow’s Shadow Round-Up Gallery will be open Thursday, Sept. 14 through Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. at 256 S. Main St., Pendleton. There is no admission charge.

Portland’s White Bird dedicates its 20th dance season to its audience

The Oregonian/OregonLive reporter Amy Wang outlines the 20th dance season of White Bird. Walter Jaffe and Paul King moved to Portland in 1996 and were “bereft of the wealth of dance performances they’d enjoyed in New York.”

Jaffe had been on the board of the Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York, so when the company was in town for the Western Art Alliance conference, they met up with Jaffe and King and asked if the couple would present them in Portland.

“So we did,” King said. The performance at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall a year later drew 1,400 people.

King and Jaffe have no dance experience, just a passionate love of the art form. This year’s season is packed with powerful performances and a wide array of styles from modern to hip-hop, ballet and flamenco.

High’s Warhol exhibition extended through September 10th

On August 31, the  Northside Neighbor, reported that the world-class exhibit “Andy Warhol: Prints from the Collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation” has been extended to September 10 due to popular demand.

The High Museum of Art is the exclusive East Coast venue for the retrospective. The collection features more than 250 prints and ephemera by Warhol including his famous series of screen prints including “Marilyn Monroe,” “Campbell’s Soup I,” “Electric Chair,” and “Mao.”
