PORT, the Portland art blog, shared an exclusive interview with Wangechi Mutu during her visit to Portland in March as part of the Jordan D. Schnitzer Exhibition and Visiting Artist Lecture Series at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Wangechi Mutu: The Hybrid Human was the inaugural exhibition in the series. The series presents curated exhibitions from the print collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation, as well as brings invited artists in connection to the exhibitions to engage with PNCA students, faculty, and the public through lectures, studio visits, and collaborations with the Print Media department.
In PORT's interview, Wangechi Mutu talks about cultural influences and mythological references that she explores through her works, as well as the connections to today's social issues.
