Real estate developer and philanthropist Jordan Schnitzer has made a $5 million contribution through the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation to give Portland State University a big push to open an art museum in the heart of the campus, writes Andrew Theen, a correspondent for The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Theen spoke to Schnitzer about the dismal concrete building in the space now, and how the museum will change the PSU footprint: “Now it’s going to be transformed into an energetic, transparent part of the community,” said Schnitzer.
Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed by 2019. The PSU project is the third of its type funded in part by Schnitzer: University of Oregon, Schnitzer’s alma mater, and Washington State University both received $2.5 million and $5 million respectively for their campus art museums.
