Ashland Daily Tidings' Vickie Aldous covers the latest exhibition to open at the Schneider Museum of Art at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, Chuck Close: Face Forward. The works by renowned contemporary artist Chuck Close are on loan from the collections of art collector and philanthropist Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation. The show opens June 18th with a reception from 5-7pm, and runs through September 5th.
78 of Close's detailed portraits will be on display, and according to Aldous, each shows how the artist continues to push the boundaries of portraiture with new experiments using unusual techniques and materials. "The range of his experimentation is just so huge," said Schneider Museum of Art Director Erika Leppmann. "Everyone knows his name and people know Chuck Close's style, but there's a lot more to learn."
For people who want to learn more about Close's career and art, docents will lead 30-minute guided tours at noon every Tuesday while the exhibit is up.
