The Missoulian reports that the Montana Museum of Art and Culture at University of Montana is presenting "a rare chance to view prints by leading contemporary artists." Present Tense: Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation features works by artists like Louise Bourgeois, Jenny Holzer, Jasper Johns, Barbara Kruger, Bruce Nauman, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol and more.
Drawn from the collections of Portland-based art collector and philanthropist Jordan Schnitzer, the exhibition was curated by MMAC Curator Jeremy Canwell, who studied semiotics, the use of symbols and language, in earning his doctorate.
MMAC celebrated the opening with a presentation by Schnitzer in the Masquer Theatre, followed by a printmaking workshop led by UM professor Elizabeth Dove. Additional programming in conjunction with the exhibition will include a panel discussion from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, and a lecture by Canwell at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, both held in the Masquer. All events are free and open to the public.
