The Capital Times' Lindsay Christians interviewed renowned contemporary artist Frank Stella at the opening of "Frank Stella Prints: A Retrospective" at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibit, on view through May 15th, highlights Stella's 50-plus year career in printmaking. The prints and one painting come from the art collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer, a collector and philanthropist from Portland, Oregon.
In the interview, Frank Stella said of the reactions to his retrospectives in Madison and earlier this year, at the Whitney: "I guess, mainly, you want them to enjoy it. There are different levels or ways of looking. But sometimes you can just relax and look and absorb the image and that’s it."
