Pendleton will get the opportunity to see works from iconic contemporary artist Chuck Close in an exhibition on loan from the collections of Harsch President Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation. Chuck Close: Selections from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation will open at the Pendleton Center for the Arts on Friday, March 10th. The show runs through April 29th and admission is free for the public.
This exhibition complements Mr. Schnitzer's long history of giving back to the Eastern Oregon community. Past involvement has included setting up a college scholarship for members of the Pendleton Round-Up Court and Happy Canyon Princesses, as well as contributing to the historic building renovation that allowed creation of the Pendleton Center for the Arts. In Fall 2016, he purchased a long-vacant former bank branch building on Pendleton's Main Street, where he hosted a pop-up gallery for Crow's Shadow Institute for the Arts during the Pendleton Round-Up.
