Katie Frankowicz of The Daily Astorian reported from the Friends of the Astoria Column special presentation meeting.
The meeting began as a Rolling Stone’s ringtone rang out from Senator Betsy Johnson, calling in to share her admiration for former Astoria City Attorney Hal Snow who died in December.
Sen. Johnson said there is nothing “wonderful and good in Astoria that doesn’t have his fingerprints on it.” He was acknowledged as being survived by his wife, children, and 10,000 Astorians.
Jordan Schnitzer, president of the Friends of the Astoria Column said, “I’ve never met anyone who was a better listener. You’d always get wise counsel.” He added, “He was the conscience of the Column,” and credited Snow for where the nonprofit group and the monument are today.
