Wall Street International writes about Alex Katz's influence of American figurative art, being known for his large scale paintings, sculptures and prints. Alex Katz: A Life in Print, Selections from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation showcases a series of prints, dating from the late 1960s to the present day, many of which have never before been exhibited. “He’s picked an image of something that most of us have familiarity about and it puzzles us,” Jordan D. Schnitzer said during his gallery talk at MAM. “It already has a preconceived notion, and that’s a critical word for his work.”
“One of the reasons we wanted to have John Baldessari [art] here is his impact worldwide is so incredible and I think a lot of people in Montana don’t have the opportunity to know these works intimately and firsthand,” MAM senior curator Brandon Reintjes said. “So we framed the exhibition in the context of bringing it and sharing it, which is Jordan’s vision as well.”
Learning to Look with John Baldessari's Conceptual Prints
John Baldessari's work is easy to like and look at. Baldessari's work comprises photography with circles with primary or complementary colors covering people's faces. His images encourage viewers to stop and look.
"He has these images that look so interesting and innocent and playful, so he seduces us to look at his work," Jordan Schnitzer said.
