Reported from ArtfixDaily Artwire, Happy Birthday, Mr. Hockney, is featured at the J. Paul Getty Museum to celebrate the artist’s 80th birthday.
Hockney is celebrated as one of the most important artists of the last 50 years. His experimentation in painting, drawing, printing and photography demonstrates “a distinctive, playful style and an enduring curiosity about technique.”
“David Hockney is one of the most prolific and beloved artists of our time, says Timothy Potts, director of the John Paul Getty Museum. “His light-filled images of Los Angeles, where he spent much of the last fifty years, have become icons of he city’s creative lifestyle and colorful personalities.”
Perhaps most exciting in this retrospective is the Getty Museum’s showing of their Hockney’s masterpiece: Pearblossom Hwy., 11-18th April 1986 #2, last shown in 2008.
The exhibition is made possible through generous loans from David Hockney Inc., the David Hockney Foundation, and a private collector. Financial support has been provided by Arlene Schnitzer and Jordan Schnitzer, Directors of The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation.
